WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in a head on crash that took the life of a Sturgis man.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says deputies were called out just after 2 AM Saturday to Fawn River Road near Mill Pond Road in White Pigeon Township. When they arrived, deputies found a 26 year old Sturgis man pinned in his vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation shows that the Sturgis man was driving east on Fawn River Road and crossed the centerline into the path of another vehicle, heading west and being driven by a 28 year old LaGrange man. The vehicles collided.
The LaGrange man was transported to Parkview LaGrange Hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.
Neither driver were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The names of the drivers have not been released as the crash remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were the Constantine Police Department, the White Pigeon Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.
