(STURGIS) – An RV plant in Sturgis will be closing this summer and laying off its employees.
Heartland RV announced this week that they will be closing their plant in Sturgis, effective June 20. 122 workers will be laid off with this move.
The Sturgis facility, located at 1139 Haines Boulevard, opened in November 2023.
The Michigan Department Of Labor And Economic Opportunity announced that Heartland filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act earlier this week, which gives details of the layoffs. The WARN Act requires companies going through mass layoffs and/or site closures to issue advance public notice to the State’s Labor Department, should that step meet certain requirements for the size of the company or the number of people involved.
In an e-mail to Swick Broadcasting, the Department Of Labor And Economic Opportunity said that Heartland is closing the Sturgis plant due to business necessity.
The 122 jobs include six salaried positions and 116 non-union hourly employees.
In addition, Heartland also announced that facilities in Elkhart and Middlebury will see employee layoffs. The Cruiser RV facility in Howe will be affected as well.
Heartland RV, Cruiser RV and Jayco are all owned by Thor Industries. Messages have been left with Heartland and Thor officials for comment on the closings. So far we have not received any response.
