(FORT WAYNE) - Fort Wayne Community Schools Superintendent Mark Daniel issued a letter to families Wednesday to address concerns stemming from rumors about Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity on district campuses.

According to WANE-TV, the rumors circulated on social media amid heightened national attention on immigration enforcement following recent federal actions in Minnesota. Daniel said the district has no indication that immigration enforcement is planned at any FWCS school.

In the letter, Daniel emphasized that FWCS works regularly with state law enforcement agencies and has no reason to believe the rumors are accurate. He said the district would immediately notify staff and families if circumstances were to change.

Daniel also made clear that no FWCS employee will assist with immigration enforcement as part of their job duties. He reiterated the district's commitment to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students, regardless of immigration status.

The outreach follows a similar message earlier this week from Northwest Allen County Schools, where administrators responded to social media posts encouraging students to show support for or opposition to ICE.

Daniel said Fort Wayne Community Schools will continue to follow district policy and state and federal law while serving as a place of stability for students and families during uncertain times, WANE-TV reported.
