(GARRETT) - A Butler woman was hospitalized after a late-night crash in DeKalb County Friday.

Deputies say 48-year-old Katherine Smith was driving a 2019 Buick Encore south near State Road 1 and County Road 4A around 10:37 p.m. when she entered a curve at a high rate of speed. Investigators say the SUV continued straight through the curve, left the roadway and struck two trees in a yard along County Road 4A.

Smith had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and was taken by ambulance to Parkview DeKalb Hospital with complaints of chest pain. No other injuries were reported.

The vehicle was declared a total loss and towed from the scene.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Hamilton and Butler police departments, Hamilton Fire Department, Steuben County EMS, DeKalb Central Dispatch and Jeff's Towing.
