(LANSING) - Michigan has joined a multistate lawsuit challenging recent federal changes to the recommended childhood vaccination schedule.

The legal action targets a January 5 decision memo from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that removed universal recommendation status for seven vaccines. Those include vaccines for rotavirus, hepatitis A and B, influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and meningococcal disease.

In response, Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian issued a standing recommendation urging families to follow immunization schedules from the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The outcome of the lawsuit could determine whether the federal changes remain in place or are reversed.
