(QUINCY) - Quincy Community Schools will hold two public information meetings on a proposed $60 million bond that voters will decide on May 5.

Superintendent John Denney says the sessions will outline facility needs, planned renovations, financial impacts, and include building tours. The proposal would appear as a 5.3-mill tax increase, though officials estimate the net increase to taxpayers would be about 4.5 mills as existing debt is paid off.

The plan focuses on upgrading current buildings rather than constructing new schools. Key projects include demolishing the 1931 middle school to add parking, converting the old gym into a cafeteria-auditorium space, renovating the high school for middle school use, adding new classrooms and a gym, and building a new bus garage at Jennings Elementary.

Meetings are set for Monday, March 2, at Jennings Elementary and Thursday, March 12, at the middle school cafeteria. Both begin at 6:30 p.m.

More details and tax information are available at the Quincy Community Schools website.
