(INDIANAPOLIS) - Danise Baird, the wife of U.S. Representative Jim Baird, has died from complications related to injuries she suffered in a car crash earlier this year.
According to the congressman's office, the couple was struck in a January hit-and-run while traveling to Washington, D.C. Rep. Baird was hospitalized for less than a day, but his wife required extended recovery.
Family members said law enforcement had been investigating the crash after the driver fled the scene.
Danise Baird and the congressman were married for 59 years and raised three children. Leaders from across Indiana and Washington have offered condolences to the family following news of her death.
