(ANGOLA) - A recorded 911 call is at the center of a serious felony case in Steuben County, capturing what investigators describe as a violent assault inside an Angola apartment.

Fred J. Holst, 30, of Auburn, is charged with Level 1 felony rape, Level 3 felony rape, Level 6 felony intimidation, and misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and resisting law enforcement.

On Dec. 14, 2025, Angola Police were dispatched at 2:37 a.m. to a residence in the 500 block of Regency Court. By the time officers were called, the victim had already dialed 911, creating a recording that lasted nearly 10 minutes.

During that call, investigators say the victim can be heard repeatedly telling Holst to stop and asking to be left alone while the situation escalated.

Police allege Holst made explicit demands and issued threats of serious physical harm. The affidavit states he warned he would break the victim’s skull if she did not comply.

When officers arrived, Holst allegedly refused to come out of a bedroom and claimed police had no right to be there. He was eventually taken into custody, and officers had to provide clothing before transporting him to jail. During transport, he reportedly made statements about wanting to provoke a confrontation with police.

In interviews with investigators, the victim said the two had gone out earlier that evening. She told police she did not want to engage in sexual activity, at which point Holst became aggressive. The affidavit states he pinned her down, pulled her hair, bit her, and struck her multiple times. Officers documented visible injuries, including bruising and bite marks.

Court records also indicate the two had prior contact despite a no-contact order that had been in place between December 2024 and January 2025. Investigators say the pair exchanged a large volume of messages and continued meeting in person while attempting to keep those interactions hidden.

Holst was taken into custody at the Steuben County Judicial Center.

If convicted, Holst faces a maximum of 58 1/2-year prison sentence with $10,000 in fines.
