(AKRON) - Hyundai has stopped sales of certain 2026 Palisade SUVs following a fatal accident involving a young child in Ohio.
Police say a 2-year-old girl died after becoming trapped when a power-operated third-row seat folded forward inside a parked vehicle in Akron. Investigators say the seat continued moving and did not detect the child.
Officers say multiple people tried to free the child before she was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Authorities say there is no indication the family did anything wrong.
In response, Hyundai has issued a stop-sale order for the Limited and Calligraphy trims of the 2026 Palisade, preventing dealerships from selling or allowing test drives of those models.
The automaker is also preparing a recall that could impact more than 68,000 vehicles nationwide.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the seat malfunction.
