(CHICAGO) - Any hopes for a quick decision on whether the Chicago Bears will choose northwest Indiana for a new stadium have been pushed deeper into the spring and likely into summer, according to the Indiana Capital Chronicle.

Bears President Kevin Warren says the team is still actively working through due diligence in Indiana, including traffic, construction and transportation issues, while also giving Illinois lawmakers more time to finish a competing proposal.

That keeps Indiana's Hammond stadium proposal fully in play, built around the new Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority and an infrastructure package that could top $1 billion.

The Chronicle reports Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston says talks with the Bears continue to go well and that state leaders remain optimistic about landing the franchise.

For now, the Bears' next home remains a two-state fight between Illinois and Indiana, with the team now signaling a final decision should come sometime this spring-slash-summer
