(COLDWATER, OHIO) - Authorities are investigating after dozens of calves were stolen from a farm operation near Coldwater over the weekend.

Farm officials say 64 Holstein calves, about 13 weeks old, were taken from a calf barn near the intersection of State Route 219 and Coldwater Creek Road.

The theft is believed to have happened between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

The calves were being raised by Selhorst Farms for Gaerke Brother Farms. The animals were kept inside a converted turkey barn being used as a calf starter facility.

Farm operators say the size of the theft suggests it was not random. They say the number of animals taken would have required planning and the ability to transport the calves.

Most of the animals had docked tails, which could help identify them if they are sold or moved.

Local law enforcement is investigating. No suspects or vehicles have been identified.

Farmers in the area are being asked to watch for any calves matching the description and report suspicious activity.
