(ANGOLA) - Republican Steuben County Sheriff candidate Chris Emerick is thanking voters after winning Tuesday's primary election.
Emerick defeated Mike Meeks in the Republican primary race for sheriff.
In a statement released after the election, Emerick said he was "honored and humbled" by the support shown by Steuben County voters.
"This victory isn't about one person, it's about all of us," Emerick said. "It reflects a shared belief that we can build a safer, stronger community rooted in integrity, accountability, and respect for every individual."
Emerick also thanked his family, friends, supporters, and voters who participated in the election process.
Current Sheriff R.J. Robinson is term-limited and cannot seek another term.
Emerick will advance to the November general election.
