(NORTHEAST INDIANA) - The Indiana Department of Transportation has released its 2026 schedule for chip seal operations, with more than 300 lane miles of roadway across northeast Indiana scheduled for treatment beginning on or after June 1.

Chip sealing involves applying a layer of liquid asphalt followed by aggregate to help seal cracks, protect road surfaces from water damage and extend the life of existing pavement. After the surface cures, crews return to apply a fog seal and new pavement markings.

Several projects are planned in the WLKI listening area during June.

Those include:

  • State Road 120 from east of State Road 827 to east of State Road 827
  • State Road 327 from State Road 4 to U.S. 20
  • State Road 120 between State Road 5 and State Road 9
  • State Road 8 from east of State Road 9 to State Road 3
  • State Road 9 from U.S. 33 to south of State Road 8.

Additional projects are scheduled throughout July and August on highways across northeast Indiana.

INDOT says each section of roadway will be closed to through traffic for approximately four days while work is underway. Local traffic will continue to have access and will be guided through work zones by pilot cars.

The schedule is weather dependent and may change.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through work zones.
