(COLDWATER) - The Little River Railroad is marking two major milestones this year as the historic railroad celebrates 50 years of passenger excursions alongside America's 250th birthday celebration.

The railroad first began carrying passengers in 1976 during the nation's Bicentennial celebration. Today, the railroad's 115-year-old steam locomotive continues pulling excursion trains through the Branch County countryside.

As part of the celebration season, the railroad will host its annual Father's Day Special on Sunday, June 21. Organizers say the excursion has become a popular family tradition and often sells out in advance.

The round-trip ride to Quincy lasts about one hour and 45 minutes and includes a 20-minute layover in Quincy. During the stop, children can use the playground while visitors watch the locomotive switch to the opposite end of the train for the return trip.

The Little River Railroad station is located at 29 West Park Avenue in Coldwater. Departure times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure.

Passengers may arrive early to visit the on-site museum before boarding. Restrooms are available at the station and onboard the train. Light snacks will also be available for cash purchase.

Tickets are $22 for adults and $15 for children ages 3 through 12. Fathers ride free when accompanied by a paying passenger. Children younger than 3 may ride free if seated on a lap.

Advance ticket purchases are recommended. Limited walk-in tickets may be available beginning at 9 a.m. on Father's Day.
