(SHIPSHEWANA) - A tragic crash in LaGrange County Tuesday afternoon left two people dead after a dump truck veered off U.S. 20 and struck an Amish buggy.
Indiana State Police say the buggy was traveling east on the shoulder near County Road 1000 West just after 3 p.m. when the truck drifted off the roadway and hit it. Investigators have not yet determined why the 20-year-old driver, Gael Reyes of Sturgis, left the lane. Both occupants of the buggy--75-year-old Marvin Shrock and 74-year-old Ruby Shrock, both of Shipshewana--were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors, but the investigation is ongoing.
