(INDIANAPOLIS) - Two advocacy groups are urging Indiana lawmakers to intervene as families face what they call a growing energy affordability crisis.
The Indiana Conservation Voters and Citizens Action Coalition have rolled out a new Ratepayer Relief Plan, warning that electric bills across the state could jump more than 16 percent next year. The proposal includes immediate protections to prevent utility shutoffs, along with long-term reforms aimed at stopping monopoly utilities from passing unnecessary costs onto customers. A spokesperson for the groups says many Hoosiers are already struggling to keep up with energy bills, and without swift action, more families could lose power this winter. The organizations want lawmakers to make energy affordability a top priority heading into the next legislative session.
