(MICHIGAN) - With winter setting in, Consumers Energy is reminding Michigan seniors about several programs designed to keep them safe, warm, and connected through the cold months. The company is offering $4 monthly electric bill credits for households led by someone 65 or older, along with multiple protections to prevent service shutoffs during winter weather. Seniors can enroll in the Winter Protection Plan, which shields customers from shut-offs and large monthly payments from November through March. A separate 18-month shut-off protection program is also available year-round for residents 65 and older.

Consumers Energy has updated its website to make it easier for seniors to explore assistance options and encourages customers to verify their birthdate on file if they're not receiving eligible credits.
