(FORT WAYN) - After shelving plans for a southwest Allen County racetrack, WANE 15 reports that developers Bill Bean, Tom Kelley and Chuck Surack have unveiled a new vision -- the Auburn Motorsports Park, set to rise on the historic grounds of the old Kruse Auction Park near I-69.

The property, long associated with classic car culture, is already zoned for an automotive road course, making it a natural home for the new project. Kelley says they want to build a world-class motorsports destination that will draw visitors from around the globe.

The proposed facility includes an FIA Level 2 road course, meeting Formula One-level safety standards, plus a family-friendly go-kart track. Developers say the park will offer affordable entry options, including $20 track days and free events for Boys and Girls Clubs.

With decades of auto heritage behind it, Auburn leaders say the project fits perfectly with the city's identity as the "Home of the Classics." Early reactions from nearby residents have been positive, and officials expect the development to spur new housing, hotels and dining around the site.

The sale of the property is still pending, but developers say construction could be finished by summer 2028.
