COLDWATER, Mich. (WLKI)- A Flint woman remains in custody after being arraigned in Branch County District Court on allegations she attempted to smuggle cocaine into Lakeland Correctional Facility.

Tyishia Charmaine Nicole Latrice Walker, 32, faces a charge of conspiracy to bring contraband into a prison. The charge is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison under Michigan law.

Michigan State Police troopers took Walker into custody Sunday on a felony warrant while she was being held at the Oakland County Jail. She was then transported to Branch County for court proceedings.

Authorities allege Walker attempted to bring cocaine to an inmate inside Lakeland Correctional Facility, which is located near Coldwater.

During her initial court appearance, a public defender was appointed to represent Walker. A not guilty plea was entered on her behalf, and her bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Walker is scheduled to return to court next week for a preliminary examination.

The case is connected to continued efforts by law enforcement and corrections officials to prevent controlled substances from entering the facility. All charges are accusations, and Walker is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
