(QUINCY) - Grab your skates -- Quincy's outdoor ice skating rink is officially open for the season.
Village officials say the rink at Village Park, next to the bathrooms, is ready for public use after the street department completed seasonal preparations. The rink is free to the public and open, weather permitting.
Because the rink uses natural ice, it depends on consistently cold temperatures to remain safe. If conditions warm up, the rink may temporarily close until the ice refreezes.
A limited number of ice skates in various sizes are available at no charge, and skaters are asked to return them after use. Village leaders also remind visitors to respect the facility, noting that vandalism could force the rink to shut down.
Officials say the rink offers a classic winter pastime, giving families a chance to make memories and enjoy the season together -- all at no cost.
