(FORT WAYNE) - Fort Wayne residents who need rehab care but can't afford it are getting a new option in the new year.
Starting in January, Trine University's Thunder Therapy Clinic will begin offering occupational therapy services, expanding its long-running pro-bono care in Fort Wayne. Thunder Therapy is a referral-based clinic staffed by students in Trine's Doctor of Physical Therapy and Doctor of Occupational Therapy programs, working under licensed faculty supervision. The clinic has provided free physical therapy since 2017 and now adds occupational therapy to better serve patients of all ages. Services include help with daily living skills, sensory needs, neuromuscular reeducation, home exercise programs, and assistive device recommendations. The clinic serves patients referred through the Matthew 25 Health and Dental Clinic and other area providers. Referrals can be faxed or submitted online through Trine University. Thunder Therapy is located at the Brooks College of Health Professions on Parkview Plaza Drive in Fort Wayne.
For those needing care -- and students gaining hands-on experience -- the expansion means more help, right when it's needed most.
