(STEUBEN COUNTY) - A pursuit through Northern Indiana led to the arrest of an individual.

Indiana State Police say just before 9:30 AM Wednesday, a trooper was patrolling I-69 in Steuben County and observed a dark colored vehicle with a red racing stripe going 105 MPH in a posted 70 MPH zone.

The trooper activated his emergency lights, but the suspect vehicle failed to stop and continued driving north. The driver tried to get off the interstate at the 350 mile marker for Steuben County Road 200 West, but the vehicle left the roadway and became stuck in a creek.

The driver, 21 year old Dakota Carter of Fort Wayne, was taken into custody and transported to the Steuben County Jail. Further investigation revealed a handgun was thrown from inside the vehicle and ended up in the creek where the crash occurred. The ISP Underwater Search and Rescue Team located and recovered the handgun.

Carter is charged with felony counts of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and criminal recklessness with a vehicle while in possession of a handgun; and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated controlled substance.

The Angola Police Department and the Steuben County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
