(MIDDLEBURY) – Authorities have released the name of the man who was involved in a stand off last week in Northern Indiana.
The Elkhart Police Department says the man is 47 year old Timothy Haraldsen of Chicago.
The incident started in the late night hours of December 26 when officers attempted to pull over a van in the area of Cassopolis Street and East Bristol Street in Elkhart. The van was reported stolen out of Wisconsin.
Haraldsen refused to pull over and led police on a chase, that went onto the eastbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road, and stopped just after 12 AM December 27 at the Middlebury off ramp exit.
Elkhart Police deployed chemicals inside the vehicle, but Haraldsen refused to get out. The Elkhart County Regional SWAT Team was called to the scene and also deployed gas into the vehicle.
At 5:30 AM, Haraldsen got out of the vehicle, thanks to the SWAT Team and a K-9 officers.
Haraldsen is still in the hospital. He is charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and possession of meth.
