(INDIANAPOLIS) - Hoosiers may want to fill up sooner rather than later.

Gas prices across Indiana are expected to rise in the days leading up to Memorial Day weekend as fuel markets enter a pricing cycle that typically follows extended periods of lower prices.

Analysts say the increase is part of a normal market pattern and not the result of fuel shortages.

Even with the anticipated increase, Indiana continues to have some of the lowest gasoline prices in the Great Lakes region.

Industry analysts also report that a labor dispute involving workers at BP's Whiting refinery has not had a significant impact on fuel production or gasoline supplies.

Global events continue to influence oil and fuel markets as well. Analysts point to disruptions affecting shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's busiest routes for crude oil transportation.

The expected increase comes as many Indiana families prepare to hit the road for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
