(HUNTINGTON COUNTY) - Six people are facing felony charges following the death of a 7-day-old infant who was attacked by a family dog last September in Markle.

Jason A. Weaver died on September 4 from multiple blunt force injuries after being attacked by a dog named "Chomp."

Those charged include the infant's father, Austin Kinsey; mother, Violet Weaver; grandfather, Timothy Kinsey; uncle, Tony Kinsey; step-grandfather, Michael Wickey; and grandmother, Rita Wickey.

According to court records, officers responding to the Miller Street home reported strong odors and severe clutter throughout the residence. Investigators also documented trash, dirty dishes, dirty clothing, insects and cockroaches inside the home.

An autopsy found more than 180 abrasions and multiple bruises on the infant's body, along with significant internal injuries.

Court records indicate family members described the dog as gentle with the baby but acknowledged it had previously shown aggression toward other animals and had bitten people before.

Following the incident, the Huntington County Health Department determined the home was unfit for human habitation and ordered the occupants to vacate.

Chomp and other dogs were removed from the property. The dog was later euthanized.

All six defendants are being held at the Huntington County Jail.
