(COLDWATER) - The City of Coldwater says it was not notified in advance of a federal immigration operation in the community July 2.

In a statement released July 2, the City said Branch County Central Dispatch was notified at approximately 4:48 a.m. of the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel in the community.

The City says, based on the information currently available, ICE is seeking a limited number of specific individuals. The City says it understands there is no intention to maintain a long-term presence.

Because this is a federal law enforcement matter, the City says it has no further information regarding the nature of the operation.

Questions regarding ICE activities or immigration enforcement should be directed to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or appropriate federal authorities.

The City says it will continue to provide accurate information as it becomes available and encourages residents to rely on official sources for updates.

Questions may also be directed to Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker at Kbaker@coldwater.org or 517-279-6911.
