ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. (WLKI)- The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigative search in Leonidas Township connected to the disappearance of Brittany Shank, who has been missing for nearly eight years.
Shank was 23 when she was last seen on Nov. 30, 2018, in the 33000 block of Fawn River Road near Sturgis.
Sheriff's officials said they recently received information that may be connected to Shank's disappearance. The current search is intended to investigate that information and rule out possible leads.
The FBI's Detroit Field Office is assisting the sheriff's office, including members of its Evidence Response Team.
FBI Detroit Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan said the agency is providing technical expertise and resources as local investigators continue their work.
Authorities emphasized that the search does not confirm any new finding in the case. They said additional information will be released when appropriate and when it will not compromise the investigation.
