FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WLKI)- Jenn Sylvester has been named general manager of the Fort Wayne TinCaps, becoming the first woman to serve as general manager for a professional baseball team in Fort Wayne.

The TinCaps announced Sylvester's appointment Friday. She takes over the role previously held by Mike Nutter, who had served as general manager since 2008. Nutter will remain with the organization as team president.

Sylvester joined the TinCaps in 2015 as an intern and has held several roles within the organization during the past 11 years. Her career with the team included work as a sales representative, ticket and corporate account manager, and assistant director of corporate partnerships.

In a statement released by the TinCaps, Sylvester said she was honored by the opportunity and plans to build on the team's longstanding relationship with the community.

"My goal is to honor what's been built while bringing fresh energy and experienced perspective to the role," Sylvester said. "At the end of the day, it's about the people--our staff, our fans, and the City of Fort Wayne."

Sylvester is originally from Romulus, Michigan. She earned a bachelor's degree in sport management from Siena Heights University, where she also played softball, before earning a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance from Ball State University.

The TinCaps are the High-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres and play at Parkview Field in downtown Fort Wayne.
