(WASHINGTON D.C.) - New bipartisan legislation aimed at protecting children online is moving forward in Congress.

Congresswoman Erin Houchin announced that three online safety bills have cleared a key House subcommittee, advancing efforts to strengthen protections for minors on digital platforms. The package includes the AWARE Act, which targets potential risks tied to AI chatbots that interact with children, setting new requirements for transparency and safety. The SAFEBOTs Act would require clearer disclosures so users--and parents--know when they're communicating with automated systems. The Parents Over Platforms Act focuses on closing loopholes that allow children to bypass minimum age rules on social media and other online services. Houchin says the legislation is designed to give parents more control over their children's online activity while holding tech companies accountable for safety standards. The bills now head to the full committee for further debate and consideration.
