(JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP) – A weekend motorcycle crash claimed the life of the driver, and injured a passenger.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says deputies and other first responders were called out just after 4:30 PM Saturday for a motorcycle crash in the southbound lanes of I-69 near the 355 mile marker in rural Jamestown Township. The 911 caller indicated that two occupants of the motorcycle were badly injured and unconscious.
Steuben County EMS along with the Angola and Fremont Fire Rescue arrived and immediately started treating 57 year old Michael L. Wright and 55 year old Victoria L. Wright, both of Auburn, who were both in critical condition. Both were quickly assessed and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center.
The preliminary investigation indicated that Michael Wright was driving his motorcycle south on I-69, just south of the Green Lake Bridge. Witnesses say that as Wright was existing a curve in the road, his head began to move up and down and the motorcycle left the east of the road, traveling into the grass median and collided with a cable barrier past. Both of the Wright’s were ejected from the motorcycle, and neither of them were wearing a helmet.
Despite all lifesaving efforts, Michael Wright succumbed to his injuries and died at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Victoria Wright is in serious condition.
Meeks says the investigation determined that the weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. It’s possible that some kind of medical event contributed to the crash, which is still under investigation.
