(FREMONT) – An investigation into an alleged non-compliant registered sex offender leads to discovery of suspected child pornography.

Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson says on August 22, detectives received information indicating that a Steuben County registered sex offender, identified as 22 year old Caleb Michael Perry of Fremont, was working at a business in Fremont and had failed to report the employment information to the Sheriff's Office as required by law. Detectives made contact with Perry at his residence in the 600 block of West Cora Lane in Fremont to follow up on the information.

During the preliminary interview, detectives noticed Perry had multiple gaming systems and computers that required usernames or screen names. When questioned, Perry allegedly admitted that he had multiple email address and screen names which he had failed to report to the Sheriff's Office in violation of Indiana's Sex and Violent Offender registry law.

While doing a consensual search of Perry's cell phone, detectives observed what appeared to be several images of juveniles engaged in sexual conduct. Perry was initially taken into custody on a felony charge of allegedly failing to register as a sex or violent offender.

A search warrant was obtained for Perry’s cell phone where multiple images, videos, and websites depicting what appeared to be child pornography were found, along with another unregistered social media accounts. On August 28, Perry was interviewed again about the evidence on the cell phone, and admitted to the contents.

On September 4, an arrest warrant was issued by Steuben Superior Court, charging Perry with felony counts of Possession of Child Pornography and Failure to Register as a Sex or Violent Offender. He remains held in the Steuben County Jail with bond set at $6,000.

The Fremont Town Marshal’s Office and the Angola Police Department assisted with the investigation.
